What got you involved in the sport, and who were the people who helped you get into the sport?
My mom saw an advertisement on Facebook for a crossfit gym. I did dance for ten years, and then tennis for a year. I basically wasn't doing any sport so my mom asked me to try it and I fell in love with it. My mom was who got my involved in the sport, as well as the coaches and trainers.
What has been your biggest achievement to date, and what is your ultimate goal in crossfit?
My biggest achievement was doing my first spartan race. It was by far my favorite thing that I have done. Another was hitting a 285lb deadlift. That was one of the happiest days of my life. It was so much fun and such a fun experience. I did it with about twenty people from my gym. My ultimate goal is to make it to the crossfit games as a teenager or as an individual.
Who has been your biggest role model outside the gym, and who is your biggest in?
My biggest role model outside of the gym is my mom because when she was 13 she lost 50 pounds, so her overcoming that has been amazing. She has been in the gym with me every day pushing me and supporting me. In the gym it is Katrin Davidsdottir. She just shows how much you can get if you just push and put in the effort. Also Kaela Stephano, because she shows that hard work pays off.
What is your favorite lift and why?
The deadlift is my favorite because it's the lift that I can lift the most weight.
Crossfit is known to have long term effects on growth/ your body, what is something you’d tell parents of kids interested in the sport about this?
If you get a coach who watches you thoroughly nothing bad will happen. Make sure you go to a good gym and surround yourself with good coaches and nothing bad will happen.
What is your favorite cheat meal, and what does your diet consist of?
My favorite cheat meal is ice cream cake, and my diet consists of a lot of veggies, fruit, protein, nuts and seeds. I try to eat as healthy as I can but sometimes I cheat.
For people starting out in the sport, what are some tips you would give?
Don't be intimidated. It's the best thing that I've ever done for myself and I love it so much. You also don't have to lift heavy weight because it is a judge free zone.
What was an obstacle you faced and how did you overcome it?
I have really bad knee problems and get really bad shin splints. They're still bad to this day, I just take it carefully when I train. During the spartan race I actually got cramps in both my calves. I thought I would have to quit, but I pushed through.
