Caysea McBride | You Are Your Own Worst Enemy

What has been the highlight of your martial arts career?

The highlight of my martial arts career so far would definitely have to be my first win. There is nothing like your first win. To get in the cage for the first time is just amazing. If you're a martial artist or a fighter you understand what I'm saying. I think just realizing what I was capable of was the biggest part for me in my career, just realizing what I was capable to do.

What are your short and long term goals?

My short term goal right now is picking up where I have weaknesses in my training. Kind of staying away from MMA fights until later this year. I want to reach 4-0 for December. I have a fight in October, and then there is a fight in December so hopefully I can get a slot on that card. That is my short term, doing a lot of rolling and jiujitsu over the summer. For the long term I would like to go pro. That was my goal when I started in the sport. I want to see if I have what it takes.

How has martial arts changed your life?

Before I started training for MMA there was a lot of chaos in my life. My daughter was taken from me from CPS. That's been a really big challenge for me and my mom. I kind of thought I wasn't worth having success. I feel like MMA gave me my power back. I see my daughter and I talk to her all the time. I think it gave me the power to step up and be a part of her life even though the circumstances are difficult. My daughter is everything to me and MMA has really opened that door for me in my mind. It has really turned my life around for the best and I am really grateful.

What is your favorite martial art?

I have always loved Japanese jiujitsu, it has always been of interest to me.

What philosophy do you live by?

I think my philosophy would be don't give in to the negative. You have to push yourself because you are your own worst enemy. I think that speaks for itself, you are your own worst enemy.

What advice would you give to females starting in martial arts?

I would say that if you are starting and you love it to keep going! Don't stop because it is the most challenging mentally, more than physically. If you can push through mentally with the unexpected hardships then keep doing it. If you don't like it, don't do it. If you do want to do it though and it makes you happier go for it. Don't let yourself get in the way. You are the ony one who can get in the way.

What hobbies do you have outside of the gym?

My hobbies outside the gym is definitely sleeping. I definitely enjoy my sleep. I think that's why I call myself koala, because I sleep a lot.

Who is the greatest MMA fighter of all time?

I would say Lyoto Machida is the greatest in my opinion.
